Equine Affaire 2009 was a
bright spot in an otherwise dismal 2009 for the
horse industry. I have always been an optimist and
Equine Affaire gave me even greater hope for the
future of our collective industries. Trainers, horse
owners, vendors and just plain old horse enthusiasts
turned out in greater numbers than expected for this
the 12th annual event in West Springfield MA.
Region 16 of the Arabian Horse Association was
present for the 12th year with displays in the Breed
Pavilion with horses on display Provided by Joan
Stone of Stone Image Arabians, Francois Bonenfant of
Horses on the Hill Farm and Rebecca O’Brien of
Sunset Hill Arabians. Volunteers were selling
Arabian horse merchandise or if you just wanted to
talk horses, mostly Arabians, we had a pleasant
living room to relax in for visitors.
The Arabian Horse Association is a primary sponsor
of Equine Affaire with it’s sponsorship of the
Arabian Horse Association Youth Pavilion. Kids
learned about horses, and participated in stick
horse races and contests.
The Equine Affaire is one of four events that The
Arabian Horse Association attends and it is by far
the best attended with over 100,000 attendees. Some
attend the event for the instructional clinics, and
many come for the shopping in the commercial
exhibits, but most attend just for their shear love
of horses.
Region 16 of the Arabian Horse Association also had
a presence in this years production of the Pfizer
Fantasia with Mary Trowbridge of Trowbridges Ltd
riding with Lindsey Knight in an English Pleasure
presentation six other riders riding English
Pleasure Saddlebreds, Morgans, Pintos and Morabs.
We are most appreciative of the many volunteers that
helped in the Region 16 booth. Thanks to Kathie
Nickerson, Barbara Reynolds, Heidi and Patrick
Corrigan, Pamela Cahill, Judy Nixon, Susan Hall,
Leah Valladores and Deb Thomas who worked the booth.
We had a variety of horses to fill the Breed
Pavilion stall including Patti Bailey and Just 2
Cool, Joan Stone with S I Priority One and 2 babies,
Francis Bonenfant and S I Prince Ali Shiraz and
Becca Cyr and S I Captain Jack.
The Arabian Breed Demonstration on Friday was well
attended and the variety of disciplines was
fantastic. Karen Baldwin brought together a true
cross section of the Arabian Breed for the breed
demonstration. Kevin Dwyer rode Newmar Attalah a
true Arabian Type gelding owned by Newt and Marge
Perkins, Patti Bailey on Just 2 Cool her ten year
old Arabian stallion that competes in competitive
trail and Karen Baldwin rode Indyana Jones a 19 year
old Purebred Arabian gelding owned by Robin
Kolodecik. Sarah Newton showed National Champion ALF
Reiner a Half-Arabian gelding that shows in
dressage, show hack and sport horse under saddle.
Mary Kay Newton showed her gorgeous example of a
Half-Arabian/Half Irish Sport Horse ALF Bakken
Bonanza. Mary Trowbridge rode a Half-Arabian English
Pleasure Horse Jitterbug Jane owned by Heather
Johnson and Lindsey Knight showed B A Apollonis a
Purebred Arabian mare owned by Kathy and Ken D’Auria.
We are already planning for 2010. If you are
interested in volunteering to help please contact me
at
wjmstonepost@aol.com or Cheryl Mastelee at
greymist@comcast.net. We will be needing more
help next year and look forward to hearing from you.
Best Regards,
Walter and Linda Misco
