Each
year Region 16 awards a deserving individual a
$1000.00 scholarship. This year the choice is a
young lady from Ionia, NY. Aryn Rapp is a student in
the communications program at Syracuse University.
When she graduates she Aryn is very active in her
community and is an active member in the national
Honor Society. She has volunteered at the local
hospital in the Continuing Care Center, where she is
involved with Recreational Therapy for the
residents. Last year she was honored as Outstanding
Student of Ontario County by the Youth Council and
received the lamp of knowledge award for being on
high honor roil all year.
Aryn has been involved with Arabian Horses for ten
years and has been riding at Phelan Training
Stables. Scott Phelan says that when working with
Aryn is impossible to ignore her tenacity, she just
finds ways to get things done. While working,
attending school she still found time to spend
afternoons with the horse she leases. Aryn is paying
to lease and show a horse this year on her own. On
weekends Aryn was responsible for cleaning and
feeding for 25 horses all before 8:30 AM.
Aryn has had to work for anything she has wanted.
Working at a local grocery store 20-25 hours a week
limited the time she could spend with her horse so
she went from school to the farm to work about every
day. One reason she keeps up a busy schedule is to
maintain her riding and showing. She accepts her
busy schedule because in the end she knows it is
worth it. Her involvement with the Arabian horse is
too precious to just give up. Her proudest
achievement is having the determination to keep
riding and showing, because she cannot give up
something she loves and will always love.
Region 16 is proud to award our 2009 Scholarship to
Aryn knowing she is hard working and dedicated to
the Arabian breed. Her career goals include Public
Relations and a breeding program, producing high
quality Arabian Horses.
